Torino, Briolus, 1785, 2 text vols. and 1 atlas: xix,344; 366,xxxiv pp.; [atlas] xiv pp. + 92 plates, almost all by Francesco and Pietro Peiroleri; each vol. with half title and separate title page in black and red with allegorical vignette, first text vol. with frontispiece depicting Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia by Molinari, text vols. in contemporary calf, ribbed and gilt back with floral decoration, edges red; atlas in contemporary cardboard with blind paper spine, folio. Atlas with title Florae Pedemontanae icones accedit explanatio nomenclaturae botanicae.

Leather occ. scuffed, orig. boards of atlas worn at spine and somewhat bumped edges. Last plate trifle browned, one plate with some marginal dam. to paper, a few plates with some discolouring but with little interference; altogether very good. Atlas with wide margins and untrimmed. Magnum opus of botanist Carlo Allioni (1728-1804). Linnaeus considered him one of the 'auctores reformatoris' and named the herb genus Allionia after him. BM(NH) Cat.
