[Fortifications] "Architectura militaris".

Manuscript on laid paper (watermarked fleur-de-lis in crowned escutcheon) in pen and brown ink, Holland, 1st half 18th century, 60 leaves mostly used on both sides and 28 blank leaves, Latin text wth Dutch translated terms, with on nearly every page one or more illustrations of (the theory of) fortifications, two inlaid, engraved plans of Kampen and Hasselt, contemporary cardboard, folio (37.5 x 25 cm.).

Mostly vaguely waterstained in bottom right corner; binding lacks leather or vellum in its entirety, boards tender. Nevertheless in acceptable, untrimmed condition. Watermark with initials WR, for Wendelin Riehel. Beautiful, profusely illustrated scientific fortification manuscript, with many complex calculations and several number tables.
