being a series of designs for mansions, villas, rectory houses, parsonage houses, bailiffs' lodge, gardener's lodge, game-keepers' lodge, park gate lodges, etc., in the Grecian, Italian, and old English styles of architecture (...). By Francis Goodwin, architect. Part I. London, printed by W. Davy for the author, 1833, VIII p. with 41 aquatint or etched plates by R. Havell, C. Rosenberg et al. after Goodwin, with views, vertical sections and plans of 14 designs with 14 accompanying letterpress leaves, original halfcloth with title label to front board and with pasted to the flyleaf the original letterpress prospectus for the second part, folio.

Text leaves with mild browning, e.g. due to the facing plates; a few plates sl. foxed. Spine discoloured and paper letterpiece worn off; hinge of front board fragile on inside. Still a good copy, with owner's name "Lieut. Genl. Sir Herbert Taylor" in pen on title page. Lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Taylor (1775-1839) was the first private secretary of the royal house of the United Kingdom, in the service of king George III, George IV and William IV. Besides the second series mentioned on the prospectus another 2 supplements were issued. Beautiful, atmospheric plates perfectly depicting the taste of the period.
