Johan Hendrik Pootjes (1882-1944). Collection of ± 140 drawings

Pootjes's private collection of his own drawings in various media and sizes (mostly ± 25 x 25 cm., largest 45 x 33 cm.), mostly monogrammed or signed, consisting of views of/ near Dutch towns incl. some 50 named, some 60 various unnamed Dutch subjects such as landscapes, riverscapes, farmscapes, portraits, trees, ships, caricatures and still lifes, and some 25 (partly named) views of/ near foreign locations.

Johan Hendrik Pootjes was not only a prolific painter and drawing artist, but also vice president of the Nederlandsch Oost-Indische Escompto Maatschappij, one of the three largest banks in the Dutch East Indies. He was also an excellent athlete in various disciplines. Pootjes exhibited for the Kunstkring Bandoeng in 1926, and in 1940, 1941 and 1942 in Amsterdam (1942 at the Rijksmuseum). This collections contains named views of/ near Amersfoort (5x), Amsterdam (4x, with detailed locations, 1931-1932), Elburg (3x), Giethoorn (17x), Harderwijk, St. Jansklooster, Laren (2x), De Lemmer (3x), Nunspeet (7x), Ransdorp, Rijnsaterwoude, Vierhouten (2x), Vollenhove, Vreeland and Wanneperveen. Also named views of Bruges (2x), Gibraltar (2x), Igls (2x), Nice (6x), Paris (4x), Singapore and Suez. (total ± 140)
