Catalogue, original performance pictures and documents of MES, founded in 1962 by Willem de Ridder and composers Dick Raaymakers, Louis Andriessen, Peter Schat and Misja Mengelberg among others.

Included in this lot are: The famous M.E.S. programme book with a die-cut hole on the cover displaying a small 'paper constellation'. Designed by de Ridder as interactive part of the show. By attempting to read the oversized book, the audience created waves of motion and noise. Amsterdam, 1962. 49.5 x 32.5 cm, 12 pp. Loosely inserted programme leaflet and newspaper clippings. Wrappers soiled, slight bend on top part. Rare. + Invitation card and programme leaflet to the first MES concert Feb. 1962 in De Lantaren, Rotterdam. + 12 original b/w performance photos of the event by W.H. Jansen. 23 x 17 cm. + Original (fold-out) sketches and hand drawn scenarios made by de Ridder for the technicians. Also includes a floorplan for the second MES concert in Utrecht. + Poster for the last show in Lantaren Rotterdam 1964. Bottom and top part are cut off. 76 x 54.5 cm + Typed statement about MES by Jaap Spek. + A blue sheet with scores by Misja Mengelberg, typed and signed 1963. Provenance: from the Willem de Ridder archives. De Ridder (1939) was an important artist and promotor of the Fluxus movement, based in Amsterdam. *MES organized performances integrating music, theatre and visual art following the lead of Cage and Paik.
