sive Tractatus novi, singulares, absoluti, de natura et usu thermarum, ligni guaici, sassafras, salsae parilliae, chinae radicis vini medicati (...) conscripti, & editi à Julio Caesare Claudino medico excell. Frankfurt, Christ, Gerlach & Sim. Beckenstein, 1660, (8),368 p., contemporary vellum with ties, both boards with stamped central oval coat of arms of the Archbishop of Salzburg, Maximilian Gandolph Graf von Kuenburg (1622-1687), incorporating his monogram "M:G:A:S:" and the year of his election as archbishop 1668, manuscript title on spine, red edges, 4to.

Occas. severely browned; occas. marginal wormholes. The highly influential Maximilian Gandolph Graf von Kuenburg (1622-1687, originally from Graz, was elected archbishop of Salzburg on 30 July 1668 and cardinal in 1686. All books from his court library (founded in 1672, the so-called Max-Gandolph library,) were bound in the same way as our copy. The rich library contained books on all kinds of subjects, such as history, botany, zoology, travels, medicine and coockery, but also novels like "La Cléopatre“ and Don Quijote. Our very rare work is a treatise on the medical use of certain herbs, by the Italian doctor Giulio Cesare Claudini (1550-1618).
