[School prize bindings. Haarlem] 2 bindings: (1) Full gilt vellum binding with ties,

both covers with the central coat of arms of Haarlem and motto "Vicit vim virtus" together with corner fleurons within double fillet border, flat spine divided in 5 compartments by double fillet lines, each compartment with central ornament, 8vo.

Fragile ties perfectly preserved. With fold. engraved prize certificate awarded to Herico Petro de Pauw, dated 1750, signed in pen by the Haarlem Latin school board members P. Van den Broeck, D.V. Helmont and others. Spoelder, Haarlem 1 and p. 591: "Op 28 februari 1709 besloten curatoren "een bequaam plaetje te doen bereijden, en sulx met vergult op de beijde de sijden der boeken doen drukken." Met dit "plaatje"wordt wordt hoogstwaarschijnlijk het plaatstempel van type 1 bedoeld (...)". On: Polyaeni Stretegematum libric octo. Justo vultejo interprete, Pancratius Maasvicius recensuitm Isaaci Casauboni, nec non suas notas adjecit. Leiden, J. du Vivié, & J. Luchtmans, 1691, (24),832,(40) p., text in Latin and Greek juxtaposed, with engr. frontispiece; (2) Full polished marbled calf binding with ties, both covers with the central gilt coat of arms of Haarlem,, within gilt ornamental border, ribbed and gilt spine with 6 compartments, of which one with mor. letterpiece, 8vo. Fragile ties preserved. With letterpress school prize filled out in pen, awarded to Jacobo Bendorp, dated 1811, signed in pen by rector H. Waardenburg and by A. van den Ende, H. Arntzenius, Van Walré and P de Gavere. Spoelder, Haarlem 3. On: Albii Tibulli Carmina libri tres cum libri quarto sulpiciae et aliorum. Novis curis castigavit Chr. G. Heyne. Editio tertia (...).
