Sister Corita Kent

(1) Two offset lithos, 51.5 x 35 cm, printed blue, green and white, titled 'If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer' (Thoreau). One version has an added text square in the center announcing an exhibition of New Serigraphs by Sister Mary Corita at Morris Gallery New York, Nov. 1-25 1967. Trace of tape on the backside of one copy, not affecting the front. Very good unfolded copies.

(2) 'Damn Everything but the Circus' (e.e. cummings). Colour offset lithograph, 71 x 50.5 cm, published by United Church Press, signed in plate 'Corita' on lower right. Folded 2 times. Considerable wear on all corners, including pinholes, (tape) repaired parts, water stain on lower left corner and 2 cm rip off lower right corner. Corita Kent (1918–1986), also known as Sister Mary Corita, was an artist with an innovative approach to design and education. By the 1960s, her vibrant serigraphs were internationally acclaimed and becoming increasingly political, reflecting her concerns about poverty, racism, and war.
