Extremely rare edition, according to OCLC and KvK no copies present in Dutch libraries and just a few copies traced in Libraries worldwide. The title of the more common original edition of Louis de Cahusac's most succesful work (published in 1739 with the fake address "Nangazaki, Klnporzenkru, seul imprimeur du très auguste Cubo, 59749", see lot 601), states that the fairy-tale was originally translated from Japanese into Portuguese by Didaque Hadeczuca, anagram of Louis de Cahusac (1706-1759), followed by a translation into French. In our edition, the first preface is signed Didaquehadeczuca [sic] and the second preface is signed by the supposed translator into French L'Abbé de ***. Interesting utopian and erotic novel-length tale on the island Fortunée with the younster Grigri as the central figure. The tale describes the idyllic society and the adventures of Grigri, a.o. his courting of the queen Améthiste, during which he is assisted by a fairy. The novel is of libertine and frivolous quality and was put on a police index in 1825 according to Gay-Lemonnyer, II-435. And 1 other French language Amsterdam/ Paris imprint, apparently also an edition not present in Dutch libraries (1788). (total 2)
