Paper across spine split and with light damage, boards slightly stained yet a very good copy, especially lovely in the original publisher's binding, with ex libris of W.F.H. Oldewelt on inside front board. Translation of: Neue auf Vernunft und Erfahrung gegründete Entdeckung über die Sprache der Thiere (1800). According to the front cover, the dictionary of animal speech treats a large number of highly different animals, from geese, bees, lions, horses, frogs to birds of prey etc. Very rare. (2) Merkwaardige voorbeelden, ter bevordering der kennis van de zielsvermogens der dieren, voor de meer gevorderde jeugd en weetgierige beminnaars van dieren, verzameld, gerangschikt en verklaard, door Joh. Gottl. Trimolt. Uit het Hoogduitsch vertaald. Amsterdam, W. van Vliet, 1799, VIII,176,(8) p., contemporary gilt calf, small 8vo (light traces of use). Translation of: Merkwürdige Beispiele zur Kentniss der Seelenkräfte der Tiere (1798). Another two volumes appeared, of a complete set PiCarta lists only one copy, of this first volume two copies, thus very rare (total 2).
