Andrea Mantegna (1431-1503) (school). (Holders of trophies).
Etching and engraving after one of 9 paintings by Mantegna of "The Triumph of Julius Caesar", and a dividing column, c. 1495, 27.7 x 32 cm. (leaf 33.5 x 44.5 cm.), on laid paper without watermark.
Vertical folds, margins with minor tears/ lacking pieces and some foxing, yet a good - possibly slightly later - state and an exceptionally good copy of a very rare print. A variant of this print in the other direction also exists. We traced examples online of prints with the parade in the same direction as ours, with indication "Premier Engraver". A later version of the series in print form was executed by Andrea Andreani (1540-1623).
