Three 19th-century items: (1) (Sketch leaf with 8 military costumes).
France, c. 1870, 8 drawings in pen on one leaf, coloured with watercolour and provided with individual titles in French (e.g. "No. 3 Officier tenue de service et grande tenue"), with in later hand in pen: "Fait par Ernest de Langalerie trouvé dans ses cartons après sa mort.", leaf 30.5 x 20 cm.
Folds, mild creasing and staining. Highly refined and skillful drawings. Possibly concerns Ernest Urbain Jean de Gérault de Langalerie (1841-1875); (2) (Intense fighting between soldiers on horseback). Pen drawing with detail in blue watercolour, with the same annotation with attribution as on the previous drawing and almost the same leaf size (similar defects, blank top margin damaged). A beautifully captured action scene; (3) (Rider on horseback). Anonymous watercolour and gouache, heightened with gum, 36.5 x 36.5 cm., first half 19th century. (total 3)
