Jules Raymond Cardinal Mazarin was a French Cardinal of Italian descent. He was a lawyer, served in the Pontifical army, was used by Cardinal Richelieu first as an agent, and after his ordination he was appointed apostolic nuncio in Paris, named by Richelieu as his successor and appointed thusly; mostly known as politician in the court of Louis XIV.
