4to., half leather, gilt-stamped and red title on spine, ill. frontispiece, XIV,323;(4),211,(19) p., portrait of the author before the text, complete with 47 prints by C. Decker and 4 maps by O. Lindeman, all copper-engraved and mostly folding, 3 vols. in 2 bindings, bindings worn, endpapers with brown stains; inside very good. This is the first edition with the maps of Java, Ambon, Ceylon and the nautical world map. Schouten was an observant traveller who visited the hinterland of every port he called. People liked to read his accounts and anecdotes and in the eighteenth century the book saw no less than 7 reprints. (total 2)
