Large 8vo., new bindings, half leather with marbled sides, gilt-stamped and red title on spine, 4 title pages, XVI,339,VIII,306;VIII,350,(1),VIII,308 p., complete with 37 prints, 2 plans and 3 maps, all copper-engraved, Vol. I. p.339 dam. outside text, else in very good condition. This is the clean version of his diary. The latter was found circa 1940 and shows that the published edition ommitted quite a few things. His loose sexual activities and the most horrible and violent experiences are not found in that edition. In 1978 Stedman's own manuscript from 1790 was found in the James Ford Bell Library of the University of Minnesota; in 1988 the original manuscript was published for the first time. (total 2)
