[Raffles] Antiquarian, architectural, and landscape illustrations of the History of Java
by the late sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (...). With a large map of Java and its dependencies, and several interesting plates now first published. Londen, H.G. Bohn, 1844, letterpress title page and plate index (3 p.), 10 hand-coloured aquatints by W. Daniell and 82 uncoloured etchings and aquatints (1x double-paged, 1x folding), modern leather, parts of the original spine pasted on, top edge gilt, large 4to.
With ex libris and occasional blindstamp of the Explorer's Club New York, James B. Ford Library. Final quarter of the bookblock waterstained in upper margin.
The first edition of Raffles' monumental standard appeared in 1817, in 4to. The second edition of the text, for which this new edition of the plates was published, appeared in 1830. The difference in publishing dates explains the fact that the text and atlas are rarely offered for sale together. Compared to the first edition, our edition has 22 additional plates. The 10 aquatints are newly engraved for this edition.
