[Suriname] Narrative, of a five years' expedition, against the Revolted Negroes of Surinam
in Guiana, on the Wild Coast of South America; from the year 1772, to 1777 (...). Second edition corrected. Londen, J. Johnson & Th. Payne, 1806, 2 vols., XVIII,423,(5); IV,419,(5) p., with 2 engraved titles, 1 stipple print frontispiece and 80 (stipple print) engr. plates, 2 of which folding maps (Guyana and Suriname) and 1 aquatint profile of Paramaribo, contemporary uniform half-leather with gilt spine, marbled casings and endpapers, 4to.
Both vols. with some foxing in places, some repaired small tears or restored missing parts in the margin (especially in the first part) and with renewed clasps. Plate LXXX bound into vol. 2 as frontispiece, apart from that all plates completely according to binder's indices. A good copy from the library of Samuel B. Woodward, with his ex-libris on the inside of the front casings.
Very important, detailed and wonderfully illustrated after Stedman's own drawings, a classic in the field of Suriname and Guyana, the first edition of which appeared in 1796. Two prints exist of the second edition: 1806 and 1813.
