Sl. (water)stained, letterpress plate with sm. tear, leather across hinges split, yet still an acceptable copy.
The first 4o edition (that same year an 8vo edition appeared) of this extensive biography of Gustav II Adolph (1594-1632), or Gustav Adolph the Great (the Lion of the North), King of Sweden from 1611 to his death in 1632. He was the son and heir of Charles IX of Zweden and of Christina of Holstein-Gottorp and the father of Queen Christina.
Contains fine maps of Pomerania, Saxony, the Rhine and "Beavierre & aux environs" and plates of the battles at Leipzig, Lech and Lützen. The brilliant portrait is engraved by Paulus Pontius after a painting by Antony van Dijck.
