[Geography] Dissertationes de admirandis mundi cataractis

Supra & subterraneis, earumque principio, elementorum circulatione, ubi eadem occasione Aestus Maris reflui vera ac genuina causa asseritur, nec non terrestri ac primigenio Paradiso lotus situsque verus in Palaestina restituitur, in tabula chorographicaostenditur, & contra Utopios, Indianos, Mesopotamios, aliosque asseritur. Johanne Herbinio [Johannes Herbinius], Amstelodami, Janssonio-Waesbergios, 1678.

Sm. 4to., 18th-cy vellum, title in hw on spine, emblematic frontispiece, title with vignette, (12),267,(17) pp., 24 copper-engravings, mostly in-text, several folding and one pasted, as edited. Second emended and extended edition, see dedication in front, number stamp and exposition label from the Bandes Gewerbe Ausstellung in Gotha (1898), signature in hw on title page, ann. in hw about the engravings on the final endpaper, as well as an owner's stamp. This study describes research into rivers, cascades, currents and tides, in a bizarre mix with hydraulics, theology, folklore and the occult, based on the work of Anastasius Kircher. One of the illustrations is a folding map of Paradise with its rivers and situated in Palestine. Very interesting and rare.
