Natuurlyke historie van Holland by J. le Francq van Berkhey
Vol. I-IV,1. Amsterdam, Yntema en Tieboel, 1769-1779, 4 (of 9) volumes as usual, with 1 folding, hand-coloured engraved map, 27 engraved plates (20 of which folding), 10 folding charts and 1 letterpress leaf, contemporary uniform half leather with 2 contrasting morocco title shields.
Good set with light wear. A large number of sets we found consist only of these volumes. This can be explained from the fact that vol. IV,2 to vol. IX appeared under the title Natuurlijke historie van het rundvee in Holland, Leiden P.H. Trap, 1805-1811 (and these volumes are also often presented as a set, but without the volumes as in our set). There was, therefore, over a quarter of a century between vol. IV,1 and vol. IV,2! Our set carries the name of the original owner, "Ex libris B. Hofman. No. 99," in each volume.
Besides the fine map, the folding plate of the Dutch ice ships, the folding funeral and the folding print of the Dutch trotting race for the Golden Whip are especially noteworthy.
