[Physiognomy] Over de physiognomie, door J.C. Lavater
Amsterdam, J. Allart, 1781-1784, 4 vols., with engraved title vignettes, 41 engraved plates and numerous illustrations in various sizes in the text, contemporary uniform half leather, large 8vo.
Endpapers renewed in the 19th century; boards worn along edges; leather somewhat dry and with small defects.
As is often the case, the first volume is second edition, the other volumes are first Dutch edition. The first edition appeared in Leipzig, 1775. Our richly illustrated Dutch edition is compiled from a selection of texts from that German edition by Lavater himself.
