Nicolaus Gürtler (Basel 1654- Franeker 1711) was a reformed theologist and philologist and a highly productive author. He became professor of theology at Hanau (1688), Bremen (1696), Deventer (1699) and finally Franeker (1707). His "Origines Mundi" is a standard work in the field of religions, traditions and customs of the ancient peoples of the world.
