[Copy on large paper, in escutcheon binding] Albii Tibulli Equitis Rom. Quae Extant,

Ad fidem veterum membranarum sedulo castigata (...). Amsterdam, officina Wetsteniana, 1708, (20),476,(72) p., with engraved frontispiece, title vignette, 9 plates and 10 illustrations in the text, contemporary morocco, gilt back with morocco title shields, both boards with gilt English escutcheon with text 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' (Order of the Garter), edges of boards on inside and outside and all edges gilt, large 4to.

Here and there trifle foxed or slightly tanned. Spine discoloured and with damaged shield with shelf number and top backstrip; outer corners bumped. Fine copy with ex libris Bibliotheca Lamoniana on inside front cover and stamp of said library on p. 3. One of the finest editions of the work of Tibullus, edited by Johan van Broekhuizen and with commentary by Nicolaas Heinsius. Copy on large and heavy paper, from the famous library of Chrétien-François de Lamoignon (1644-1709), founded by his father Guillaume de Lamoignon. See Catalogue des livres de la bibliotheque de feu M. de Lamoignon (...), Volume 1 (1791) no. 2342 ("grand papier"). That same year the library was sold to English trader, Thomas Payne who published his own trade catalogue of books in 1793: A catalogue of books; containing a considerable part of the valuable and distinguished library of the late M. de Lamoignon. This explains the English escutcheon on the boards, which we were unable to trace. For more on this library, see: http://histoire-bibliophilie.blogspot.nl/2013/08/bibliotheca-lamoniana_1.html.
