[Chapbooks] De schoone historie van den vromen en godvrugtigen Jongeling Joseph
(...). Getrokken uyt den Boek Genesis. Van nieuws overzien ende na den laetsten Roomschen Text verbetert. Gent, J. Begyn, n.d. (ca. 1800) (approval at the end dated 11 January 1642), 55,(1) p. with title woodcut and 3 woodcuts in the text (1x repetition of title illustration), plain, slightly later cord-bound cover with overlapping back tab, 4to.
Besides a few small defects a very honest copy, considering its vulnerability in excellent condition. The front cover shows a vague owner's note.
Remarkably fine chapbook printed in two types, each left column in "Vlaemsch" (gothic) and each right column in "Geschrift" (civilité). On the reverse of the title page, the publisher explains to the "leerzugtige Jongheyd" in verse how the text was printed in two types for educational purposes and as requested by the parents. On the final page a "Zedelyke Lesse" is included in rhyme, printed in a larger gothic type. The printer Josse [or Judocus] Begyn ("op d'Appelbrugge in den Engel") was active from 1768 to 1807. With: 1 similar work printed by the same (in poor condition).
