Founder and chief editior was the Hungarian immigrant Ilona Maria Fennema-von Zboray (1914-2001). She looked for a literary and didactic magazine of the quality of those with which she had grown up in Hungary. As such a magazine no longer existed in the Netherlands since Zonneschijn was discontinued in 1943, she decided to set it up herself, with support from pedagogue D.L. Daalder (1887-1963) and children's book writer Leonard Roggeveen (1898-1959). The Stichting Kinderbelangen was not profit-oriented and set itself artistic and educational goals. Newly hired employees included both established and new, promising authors and illustrators, including Paul Biegel, Jan Blokker, Charles Boost, Jenny Dalenoord, Miep Diekmann, Tonke Dragt, Henriëtte van Eyk, Jean Dulieu, Hella S. Haasse, Han G. Hoekstra, An Rutgers van der Loeff-Basenau, Annie M.G. Schmidt and Fiep Westendorp. (Source: Wikipedia)
