Library stamp on title and endpaper, library numbers and label on inside front cover; outer corners and bottom backstrip worn. Marcus Palingenius Stellatus (ca. 1500-ca. 1551). This influential, often-reprinted work, translated into many languages, appeared for the first time in 1536, and was placed on the Index of banned books in 1559. It is a poem divided into 12 books, one for each constellation. Wikipedia: "The didactic poem addresses the subject of human happiness in connection with scientific knowledge, and combines metaphysical speculation with satirical attacks on ecclesiastical hypocrisy, and especially on the Popes and Martin Luther."
