[Catholicism] Caeremoniale continens ritus electionis Romani pontificis

Gregorii Papae XV. iussu editum. Cui praefiguntur Constitutiones Pontificiae, & Conciliorum decreta ad eam rem pertinentia. Rome, Ex Typographia Camerae Apostolicae, 1622, 122,(8) p., with woodcut title vignette and with woodcut/letterpress illustrations, contemporary limp vellum, 4to (vellum with a few holes/tears).

Bound with: S.D.N. D. Urbani divina providentia papae VIII. Confirmatio Bulle Gregorij XV. de electionie Romani Pontificis, & Caeremonialis continentis illius ritus. Ibid., idem, 1626, 34 p., with woodcut title vignette (divergent from the former) and with woodcut/letterpress illustrations. Most likely two first editions, reprinted several times. Pope Gregory XV (1554-1623, born Allesandro Ludovisi) was pope from 9 February 1621 until his death in 1623. He is known. among other things, for appointing the Sacra Congregatione de Propaganda Fide in the same year as our edition (1622), responsible for mission work and related affairs (increasingly necessary after the wave of conversion to protestantism in many countries, including the Netherlands). This work treats the procedure of electing a new pope. The addendum by Urban VIII is an official confirmation of the former work.
