[Deluxe wallpaper] "La Guerre de l'indépendance Americaine"
(Historical view of Boston with centered the Massachusetts State House, design Diltil, 1852). Central part of a panoramic scene, 172 x 473 cm., printed in colour with woodblocks on 8 connecting panels by Zuber at Rixheim, '50s, paper affixed to cloth with old newspapers as support material.
Complete central scene, on the left- and right-hand sides more panels can be added (as at the White House, see below); doubtlessly, the wallpaper could be ordered in various sizes. Quite crispy, very fragile and along the edges with loss to paper, as usual; yet removed from its original wall still in quite nice condition.
Dated based on the newspapers used for support material. One of the most famous scenes of the most exclusive wallpaper in existence, produced by the iconic Zuber, "Manufacture de Papier Peints, Tissus, Cuirs et Peintures", founded in 1797 and still operational. In their own words, the only producer still working in the traditional way. One quality of our scene is that it was also applied in the White House (with more panels), specifically the Family Residence Dining Room. The Zuber decoration was discovered by Jackie Kennedy and applied during the Kennedy Renovation 1961-1963. See: http://www.zuber.fr/ancien_site/english/decors_pano_planche_suite.html.
