The Kabouter or Brownies scouting division was established in 1914 by Robert Baden-Powell. The division was named after a story written by Juliana Horetia Ewing (1841-1885). 2 owls named Oubi and Oehoe represented the scouting leaders, the children were "kabouters". The Nederlandse Padvindstersgilde (Dutch Girls Guild) used this division until the 1970s.
