[Friesland. Hamconius. Early misprint] Martini Hamconii Frisia,

seu De viris rebusque Frisiae illustribus libri duo. Franeker, I. Lamrinck & J. Starter, 1620, (18),127 [= 131],4 leaves, title printed in red and black, with engraved portrait and woodcut coats of arms on both sides of the title, also with 53 full-length engraved portraits, contemporary vellum, small 4to.

Besides a few minimal defects (such as water stains in corners) a very good copy. Our copy, moreover, is an early misprint, of which we found no other examples online: the portrait of Enno II erroneously appears twice, i.e. facing p. 57 (correct) and p. 55, with the portrait facing p. 55 having been pasted with the correct plate of Enno (I). Contains leaf 74-75 a report of a voyage of the Frisians to Chili and America, long before Columbus. Fine and relatively rare Franeker edition, the second edition of this history of Friesland (the first was printed by Lambert Raesfeldt at Munster, 1609 and a third edition appeared in 1623). Of this edition at least two variants exist, with varying distribution of the red and black of the title page. Various sources on Hamconius (1550-1620), originally known as Maarten Hamckema, are available online, see for example: https://tinyurl.com/kbqwhen.
