Album amicorum of Henriëtte van Royen (1777-1836)
Album amicorum with 47 leaves with mostly handwritten contributions, most in French, dated 11 April 1794 to May 1804, including 5 illustrated contributions and a number of blank leaves, finely bound in gilt red morocco with centered green leather oval surrounded by various borders, front board with initials "H.V.R." and date "1794", all edges gilt, oblong small 8vo (10.7 x 16 cm.), in red morocco slipcase.
Several leaves cut out, a previously pasted contribution missing, slipcase with minor defects. With name of original owner in pen on the flyleaf. Lovely example of a late 18th-century (Batavian Republic) album amicorum of Henriette van Royen from Amsterdam, wife of Hendrik Boellaard and mother of Dirk Johan Henricus Boellaard. All contributions but one are dated 1794-1795. Contributions by members of the Boellaard and Van Royen families and by C.J. Kooy (Noordwijk), E.M. Smissaert (Harderwijk), C. Centen (Amsterdam), A.C. Heijligers (Deventer), J.E. van Gennep (Rotterdam), J. de Kinschot (Noordwijk), J.W. Stekman (Amsterdam), Julie Louise and Mimi Gregory (Amsterdam), H.L. van Suchtelen (The Hague), M.E. Fabius (Zwaanwijck), J.M. Emants (The Hague, with drawing) and others.
