Manuscript fortification atlas 17th/18th century

Manuscript in Latin and French profusely illustrated with pen drawings, probably c. 1700, paginated CXI,(7 blank); 288 p., beginning with a folding, handcoloured plate in pen and ink, also many illustrations in the text and bound with (folding) plates in pen and ink, from p. 135 even entirely consisting of (folding) drawings in pen and ink and ending with a handcoloured manuscript city plan.

Partly waterstained/ affected by damp (incl. boards), else slightly soiled/ foxed and with minor other defects. Hinge of back board partly split, backstrip partly renewed. With unidentified heraldic owner's stamp above p. I. Contains: (1) Disquisitio mathematica de arte feia et usu numerorum (the Roman-numbered pages); (2) Mathematicæ militares (p. 1-64, with frontispiece); (3) Architecture militaire (p. 67-106, with frontispiece); (4) Traité des fortifications. Livre second (p. 107 and on, fairly faithful copy after the work by Georges Fournier, Traité des fortifications, first published 1648). On p. 127: "Par le P. G.F.D.L.C.D.J."
