Foxing as usual (plates significantly less than the text); head of backstrip renewed, hinges sl. fragile. The rare first Dutch translation of Voyage d'Horace Vernet en Orient, issued in 1843. Horace Emile Jean Vernet (1789-1863), French portrait painter, history painter, lithographer and representative of Orientalism in painting. Artists Vernet and Frédéric Goupil-Fesquet began this journey with a servant in Marseille, on 21 October 1839, bringing with them equipment for daguerréotypes. They travelled through Greece and Egypt to Syria and Jerusalem.
