Amsterdam, J. Allart, 1778/ 1779, "Rare Proof", 2 vols., each consisting of 8 engraved plates in letterpress wrapper, with publisher's advertising on the inside and index on the back, small 8vo.

Wrapper sl. stained and in two parts, torn on spine, else in perfect condition. Extremely rare proof with the plates for all letters. This popular but initially unillustrated work first appeared in 1778 at the widow of Jan van Terveen in Utrecht. In the third printing by this publisher, issued in 3 vols. from 1778 to 1782, plates were included for the first time (66 in total) of which our set concerns the proofs for the first 16 plates.
