Extremely rare series of 6 children's books in French
all without place or publisher, c. 1840, all with fine handcoloured, engraved frontispiece, original uniform green or white cardboard in relief, privately covered with gold brocade paper with oval chromolithographic plate on the front board, 16mo, together in the original cardboard box covered in the same manner with the same material, with large chromolithograph on the front board.
Somewhat foxed; title page of Le petit Auvergnat with thin patch; several other internal defects. Several spines and one outer corner show part of the original binding. Lid of the box lacks two sides and is sl. soiled/ tanned. We found the first title once on the market, also without place, publisher or year, in the original green cardboard with front board in relief. This relief is still visible through the private paper of our bindings. The publisher probably listed his address on the box, therefore now invisible. Loose volumes are very rare, a probably complete set such as ours is virtually impossible to find, no sets found in libraries worldwide. Contains: (1) La pieté filiale, ou Le jupon de la grandmère, 38 p., reverse of the title with address "Typographie de A. Pinard Quai Voltaire, 15"; (2) La pièce de cinq francs, 32 p.; (3) La fête de famille, 40 p.; (4) Le frère et la soeur, 32 p.; (5) Le petit Auvergnat secouru, 38 p.; (6) La bonne fée, 39 p.
