Plate 94 mostly missing; several other plates torn and several plates around plate 182 with child's scribbling in pencil on verso or recto; several plates tender/ loose. Text and atlas vols. occ. foxed (several plates tanned). Front board of text vol. 9 tender, several other joints (particlarly the atlas vols.) sl. worn/ fragile. The set as a whole with some edgewear. The first edition of this very profusely illustrated encyclopedic work.
