Lacks flyleaf, frontispiece sl. frayed; 1 folding plate (bound behind frontispiece) repaired with tape; waterstained at the end. Binding damaged. With owner's name Fr. Thomassen and traces of mounting to inside front board, bookplate of Fernand de Ruyter (related?) to inside back board. The second printing of this classic on the subject. Compared to the first edition (1676), the part on foreign admirals has been omitted here, while the Dutch explorations are discussed more extensively. Also of importance regarding the history of America (Muller America, p. 18).
