Portrait of Jodocus Hondius and Gerard Mercator

Scholars and cartographers Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) and Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) depicted together among their instruments related to their profession. Both have made maps and globes of the world and the sky and constructed astronomical instruments. The portrait appeared in multiple places, incl. in 1613 in Mercator's 'Atlas', published by Jodocus Hondius in Amsterdam. Partly antiquely coloured, partly with additional colouring. Heightened with gold. Framed in mount under glass. Frame 57 x 63 cm. Image 39 x 45 cm. Frame sl. dam. Print in very good condition.
