(Jean Guenebauld). Le re'veil de Chyndonax,

prince des vacies druydes celtiques Diionois, avec la saincteté, religion, & diversité des ceremonies observees aux anciennes sepultures. Par I.G.D.M.D. (= Jean Guenbauld). Dijon, C. Guyot, 1621, (16),176,(15) pp., with engr. coat-of-arms of Roger de Bellegarde, fold. engr. plate of the tombe surrounded by vines by Nicolas Spirinx and 2 woodcut ills., 18th cent. marbled calf w. triple gilt fillet border around sides, gilt and ribbed spine w. mor. letterpiece, sm. 4to.

Several quires browned. Upper joint split but good holding on chords; corners bumped. A good copy, from the library Kimbolton Castle, with bookplate on upper pastedown. Very specific and rare early archeological work. In 1598, Guenebauld discovered a coffin at his vineyard at Poussat. The coffin had a Greek inscription eulogising the priest of Mithras Chyndonax (not a druid). The coffin itself later came into the possession of Cardinal Richelieu. The coat-of-arms is accompanied by an anagram: Roger de Bellegarde changed into Le Berger de l'age d'or.
