[V.O.C. Ceylon. Placards] Letterpress peace treaty
51 x 38 cm, between the Dutch "Doorluchtige (...) Staeten Generael" and the "Machtige Oos-Indische Kompagnie" on one side, and the "Doorluchtige Machtige Vorst en Heere, Kirtie Srie Raja Singa, Keizer en Koning van Kandia, mitsgaeders de Ryx-Edelen en Hofs-Grooten van zyne K:M:" on the other side, dated "Kolombo den 14ten February Anno 1766", printed on laid paper with the V.O.C.-watermark of the Amsterdam chamber and watermark crowned fleur-de-lys above monogram "K.H.".
Folded several times (sm. holes on folds) and with 2 waterstains; a few foxed spots; upper and lower margins not straight. Dated in contemp. pen "1766 14 Februarij" on verso. Extremely rare, no other copies traced, apparently no copies in OCLC/ NCC. Interesting placard showing the 25 articles of the treaty issued by Gouvernor and director of the V.O.C. Iman Willem Falck (1736-1785, governor from 1765 until 1785) and associates ("In 't Hollands") and emperor Sirilanka Dieswerre Srikirti Sri Radja Zinga ("In 't Singaleesch") and associates Doembre Ralebamy, Pilime Talauwele Ralebany, Angammone Ralebamy, Miewattere Ralebamby and Morgamme Mohandiram Ralebamy, "(...) om den oorlogh, dis tusschen beide mogendheeden onststaen is, te eindigen, en den vreede en de vriendschap op 't nieuw met elkanderen te sluiten (...)".
