Depicts Grote, notorious collector of Christian Oriental manuscripts, sitting in an Egyptian(?) tent w. 2 men, posing next to a large number of horned skulls. Added: Mémoire présentée à la cour de cassation des tribunaux Egyptiens par Friedrich Grote. Au sujet de son recours en cassation contre l'arrêt de la cour d'appel rendu à la date du 29 mai 1893. Memoires of the cassation by Friedrich Grote against his arrest for stealing of money and documents from the home of Monsieur Diamant on 27 August 1892, for which he eventually end up serving three months in jail.
Paper wr. w. Grote's photogr. states: "Espion Allemand". All documents in a stiff paper wr. with contemp. title: "La Grande guerre Allemagne, Documents Boches". Intriguing collection of a few documents on Grote, who was an elusive and commercially driven collector best known for obtaining Christian Arabic manuscript fragments from St. Catherine’s Monastery at Mount Sinai.
