Karim Hashem is a graphic artist who gained notoriety in the 1970s and 80s for both his active participation in the Squatting Movement in Amst., for designing the symbol of the Squatting Movement in 1979 and for designing programs and flyers for the Melkweg cultural centre. In collaboration w. the poet Kristian Kandstadt (b. 1954), he created several projects as a typograph and type designer, incl. the 1982 artwork “Wibautotisme” on the Vaz Diasbridge in the centre of Amst., which can still be seen today.
