Karim Hashem is a graphic artist currently residing in Vienna, Austria. He gained notoriety in the 1970s and 80s as an active member in the Squatting Movement in Amst. and as a graphic designer for papers, posters, flyers for the Melkweg cultural centre. In 1979 he designed the symbol of the Squatting Movement. In collaboration w. the poet Kristian Kandstadt (b. 1954), he created several projects as a typograph and type designer, incl. the 1982 artwork “Wibautotisme” on the Vaz Diasbridge in the centre of Amst., which can still be seen today. In 1989 he moved to Vienna, where he worked as a designer for the new Der Standard newspaper. (total 41)
