Seth Siegelaub/Bob Projansky, The artist's reserved rights transfer and sales agreement
Two versions: (1) Contrat pour la preservation des droits de l'artiste sur toute oeuvre cedee, published on the occasion of Documenta 5 1972 by Herman Daled, Brussels. Text in French. Poster, 59 x 42 cm, offset printed b/w both sides, folded twice, with punched holes for filing. Very good copy. (2) Concept contract voor de verkoop van kunstwerken. Staple bound, 8 pp. with introduction in Dutch and contract in English. The booklet was loosely inserted in Museumjournaal 16.4, December 1971, not mentioned in its contents. Light toning to edges, else very good. (total 2)
The Artist's Contract was drafted by curator, dealer, and publisher of conceptual art Seth Siegelaub, and lawyer Robert Projansky as a means to 'remedy some generally acknowledged inequities in the art world, particularly artists lack of control over their work and participation in its economy after they no longer own it'. It was translated into French, German, Dutch and Italian in the early 1970s and widely distributed through inclusion in a.o. international art magazines and the Documenta 5 catalogue.
