Written in French, 18th cent. (1 entry dated 1753). Multiple hands, all of them remarkably clear and legible. Miscellany of num. (mostly) medicinal recipes, incl. a.o. ones for different 'waters' ("eaux") and oils to cure/ treat different ailments, poisons one should recognize, medicinal uses of certain plants and herbs, many recipes against fevers, how to treat gunshot wounds, medicines against headaches, treatments/ preventatives against gout, recipe "contre la peste" (the plague), how to cure female sterility (and var. others on female health, esp. relating to childbearing), general recipes against all illness in general, recipes for prolonging life/ keeping in good health, var. medicines against children's illnesses (incl. smallpox and colic), the "vertus" ('virtues') of var. types of animal excrement in medicine, how to treat wounds and burns, how to make plasters, how to treat 'paralysis of the tongue', blindness/ failing sight and deafness/ failing hearing and a few recipes on how to change silver in to gold. Bound as a book (incl. a few blank p.) in contemp. (worn) calf w. gilt fleur de lis on ribbed spine. 8vo.
Stamp "Jules Picard" on a few p. throughout. Occas. foxing, some browning, but overall in remarkably good condition. Fascinating manuscript on 18th cent. medicinal remedies.
