Hamburg, A. Nobel & Co., 1866. 12 p. Paper wr. 8vo.
Former library copy w. stamps of Bibliotheek Artillerie Inrichtingen Hembrug. Browned, signs of wear. Interesting and rare pamphlet on the usages of nitroglycerine. In 1865 Alfred Nobel (founder of the Nobel Prize) began manufacturing nitroglycerine in Germany (after having left Sweden); soon thereafter he built a factory outside Hamburg to produce the product. Nobel's experiments with nitroglycerine led him to invent and patent dynamite, a safer way of handling the volatile material so that it could be used commercially.
