[Medieval manuscripts] Complete medieval illuminated liturgical calendar
France (Dijon?), most likely from the atelier of Michauld de Peley, ca. 1450-1480. 12 vellum lvs. Each leaf ruled in 4 columns of 20 lines, written in red, brown and blue ink in a late gothic bookhand and with various liturgical festivals and saints' days indicated. Beautifully illuminated with ornate floral/ tendril borders, fully coloured and heightened with gold, including miniatures depicting the Labours of the Month (recto) and the Signs of the Zodiac (verso). Later suede binding. 19 x 13.5 cm.
Some signs of use such as sm. stains and browning (mostly in the margins), otherwise in very good condition. A beautiful, complete exemplar of a medieval liturgical calendar, providing a fascinating window into everyday life in the Middle Ages.
