Facsimile of the G 1968 edition of the famous Museum in a Box, conceived by Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) between 1935 and 1941 (with revisions and additions continuing though 1968), comprising a mini retrospective of the artist's career. Designed and edited by the artist Mathieu Mercier, supervised by the Marcel Duchamp Association. Cologne, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, 2015. Glossy green cardboard portfolio, 38 x 37 x 7.8 cm, unfolds to a format of 83 x 37 x 7.8 cm. Issued in printed cardboard packaging box, 42.5 x 39 x 8.5 cm. This is the first facsimile edition, the second edition was released in 2020.
Book object/ multiple containing approx. 80 three-dimensional miniatures, reproductions of ready-mades and paintings including 'Fountain', 'Nude Descending a Staircase' and 'The Large Glass'. Mercier reproduced the majority of the contents of Duchamp's original box in paper form, designing everything to scale. The facsimile features fold-outs, loose sheets with coloured illustrations on panels, as well as mounted sheets and die-cuts, all with title plates. Small abrasion to one corner inside the box, tiny corner bump on exterior of box, else in excellent condition. *Weighs approx. 4 kgs.
