André Breton. La Révolution Surréaliste No.12, 15 December 1929

Paris, Gallimard, 1929. Softcover, 29 x 20.5 cm. 80 pp. with numerous photographs and illustrations by Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, and others. Text in French. The magazine was published by the Surrealists in Paris, twelve numbers appeared between 1924 and 1929. This copy belonged to the Dutch Zero artist Henk Peeters (name on first page, artist's stamps on last page) who also added some newspaper clippings from 1959, including a text by André Breton about 'L'Erotisme'.

No.12 contains the first edition of Breton's second Surrealist manifesto (the only issue to include a colourful element, featuring reproductions of red lipstick kisses), the screenplay for 'Un chien andalou' by Dali and Bunuel, Magritte's 'Les mots et les images', essays by Aragon, Char, Breton and Eluard, the results of a survey on sexuality (Enquête sur l'amour) and a content list of all issues. Cover and spine show some wear, green advertisements sheets are toned and show moderate foxing. Generally a near fine copy.
