Sonia Delaunay. Simultané playing cards, 1964. Signed copy

Exquisitely designed by Delaunay (1885-1979), commissioned by the Deutsches Spielkartenmuseum (German Playing Card Museum) in Bielefeld in honour of its tenth anniversary. First edition published by the Bielefelder Spielkarten GmbH for rummy and bridge. One red Ace card is signed 'Sonia Delaunay' and dated '1977' in blue pen.

Contains two sets of 55 playing cards, each 9 x 6 cm, and a 16 pp booklet in its original transparent plastic box, 13 x 10 x 2.5 cm. Each deck contains 52 standard cards and three jokers, in a colourful abstract design. The back of the cards are executed in a harlequin pattern, in two versions; one in red and blue and the other in green and blue. The booklet contains information about the artist and the card design in English, German and French. The Simultané Card Game was a great success, the first edition was sold out within the year. Booklet with some creasing, playing cards and box in very good condition.
